Maraschino Privacy Policy

Maraschino (“we,” “us,” or “our”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and store it, when we share it with third-party service providers, and the choices available to you when using the Maraschino mobile application (“the App”).

By using Maraschino, you acknowledge the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information needed to provide the App’s features, manage user accounts, maintain user-created content, process subscriptions, and provide bottle-recognition functionality.

Account and authentication information

When you create or access a Maraschino account, we may collect or process:

Your email address.
A system-generated user identifier.
Authentication information needed to securely access your account.
Information associated with signing in through Apple, where applicable.

If you sign in with Apple, Apple handles the authentication process and may provide us with an email address, including a private relay address, depending on your choices and Apple’s settings.

We use Supabase to provide backend database and account-related services. Passwords and authentication credentials are handled through the applicable authentication system rather than being stored as readable passwords in our application database.

User-created recipes and app content

Maraschino allows you to create and manage your own recipes and related information. This may include:

Recipe names, ingredients, quantities, methods, notes, and other recipe details.
Your liquor cabinet entries, including bottle information, quantities, and other details you enter.
Favorites, preferences, and app settings.

Your user-created recipes are associated with your account and are not shared with other Maraschino users.

Maraschino generates recipe thumbnails dynamically from recipe information, including glassware, ingredients, and garnishes. Users cannot upload or attach photographs to their recipes. These generated thumbnails are not stored as user-uploaded image files.

Bottle-label images and AI recognition

Maraschino allows you to photograph an alcohol bottle label to help identify the product and populate its details in your liquor cabinet.

When you use this feature:

The App accesses your camera after you grant the required permission.
The bottle-label image and the request needed to identify the bottle are sent to Anthropic’s API for AI processing.
The resulting bottle information may be used to populate your liquor cabinet and update Maraschino’s shared bottle-reference database.

Maraschino does not currently retain the original bottle-label image in its own database or as a stored image on your device. However, the image is transmitted to Anthropic for processing, and Anthropic’s own terms and data-handling practices govern its handling of that information.

In the future, Maraschino may store bottle-label images in its backend to support image recognition, match previously identified bottles, improve recognition accuracy, or reduce repeated AI requests. If this functionality is introduced, stored images may be used for these purposes and may be compared with images submitted by other users.

The App currently uses camera access for bottle scanning. It does not require access to your photo library for this functionality.

Shared bottle-reference information

To improve bottle identification, Maraschino maintains a database of bottle-reference information. When a bottle cannot be matched to an existing entry, information returned by the recognition process may be added to a staging database for later review and possible inclusion in the main reference database.

This information can include:

Brand and product name.
Internal identifiers used to match the product to Maraschino’s ingredient hierarchy.
Country or region identifiers.

The staging database uses system-generated record identifiers and does not contain information identifying the user who submitted the scan. Bottle-reference information may be reused to help identify the same product for other users. Entries are reviewed before being approved for the main reference database.

This shared reference information is separate from your personal liquor cabinet. Deleting a bottle from your own cabinet does not necessarily delete its corresponding shared reference record.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use information collected through Maraschino to:

Create, authenticate, and maintain your account.
Store and synchronize your recipes, liquor cabinet, favorites, preferences, and settings.
Provide cocktail recipes and other App functionality.
Identify alcohol bottles and populate relevant product information.
Maintain and improve the accuracy of the shared bottle-reference database.
Manage subscriptions and verify access to subscription-based features.
Respond to support requests and address technical or security issues.
Comply with applicable legal obligations.

We do not currently use the App to serve targeted advertising, and we do not currently operate a third-party in-app advertising or analytics service.

3. Third-Party Services

Maraschino relies on third-party providers to deliver certain features. These providers may process information as necessary to perform their services, subject to their own terms and privacy practices.

Supabase

Supabase provides backend database and related account services. Information associated with your account, including user-created recipes and liquor cabinet entries, may be stored and processed through Supabase.

Anthropic

Anthropic provides the AI service used to process bottle-label images and return bottle-identification information.

Images and associated requests are sent to Anthropic’s API for processing. Maraschino does not control Anthropic’s independent data-handling practices, retention arrangements, or any processing performed by Anthropic in providing its services.

RevenueCat

RevenueCat provides subscription-management functionality. Maraschino uses your system-generated Supabase user ID as the RevenueCat App User ID so that subscription entitlements can be associated with your account rather than only with a particular device.

RevenueCat may process information needed to manage subscriptions, including your App User ID, purchase and subscription records, transaction-related information, and relevant technical information.

Apple

Apple provides the App distribution, Sign in with Apple, and in-app purchase services used by Maraschino.

When you purchase a subscription through Apple, Apple processes the transaction under its own terms and privacy policy. Maraschino uses subscription-management services to determine whether your account has access to subscription-based features.

Services not currently connected to the App

Maraschino has used Campaign Monitor for email marketing sign-ups on its website. Campaign Monitor is not currently connected to the App or its user-account system. Registering for a Maraschino account does not, by itself, subscribe you to marketing emails through Campaign Monitor.

If additional third-party services are introduced, this Privacy Policy may be updated to describe their relevant data-processing activities.

4. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

We may share or make information available to third-party providers where necessary to operate the App, including:

Supabase, to store and manage account information and user-created content.
Anthropic, to process bottle-label images and identify products.
RevenueCat, to manage subscription status and entitlements.
Apple, to support authentication, App distribution, and purchases.

We may also disclose information where required by law, to respond to valid legal requests, to protect the rights and security of users or the App, or in connection with a business transfer where permitted by applicable law.

Your user-created recipes are not shared with other users. Shared bottle-reference information is handled separately, as described above.

5. Data Storage and Retention

We retain account information and user-created content for as long as needed to provide the App’s services, maintain your account, and meet applicable legal obligations.

The original bottle-label image is not currently retained by Maraschino after the recognition request. Anthropic may process or retain submitted information according to its applicable terms and retention practices.

Shared bottle-reference records may remain in Maraschino’s database after a user removes a bottle from their personal liquor cabinet or deletes their account, because these records are not associated with the submitting user and may be used by other users.

We may retain limited information where required by law or where reasonably necessary to resolve disputes, enforce our agreements, or protect the security of the App.

6. Account Deletion

You can delete your Maraschino account through the App.

When you delete your account, Maraschino deletes the account and associated user data from its Supabase backend and removes the associated customer record from RevenueCat. This includes your user-created recipes, liquor cabinet entries, favorites, and other account-associated content.

Your user-created recipes are not retained for other users because they are not shared between accounts.

Deleting your account does not automatically cancel an active Apple subscription. You must cancel any active subscription separately through your Apple account’s subscription settings. Deleting the App or your Maraschino account does not itself cancel recurring subscription billing.

Shared bottle-reference information that contains no contributor information may remain in the database after account deletion, as explained in this policy.

Third-party providers may retain limited information in backups or where required by their own legal obligations or applicable terms.

7. Data Security

We use third-party infrastructure and reasonable measures intended to protect account information and user-created content against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, or disclosure.

No method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure. Accordingly, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and for notifying us if you believe your account has been accessed without authorization.

8. Your Privacy Rights and Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights concerning your personal information, including the right to:

Request access to personal information we hold about you.
Request correction of inaccurate information.
Request deletion of personal information, subject to applicable exceptions.
Object to or request restrictions on certain processing.
Request a copy of certain information in a portable format.
Withdraw consent where processing relies on consent.
Lodge a complaint with an applicable privacy regulator.

You can delete your account directly through the App. For other privacy requests, you can contact us using the details in the Contact Us section.

We may need to verify your identity before responding to certain requests. We will handle requests in accordance with the laws applicable to your circumstances.

California residents

If California privacy law applies to you, you may have additional rights concerning access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information, as well as rights relating to the sale or sharing of personal information and certain targeted advertising practices.

Maraschino does not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising as those terms are defined under applicable California law.

Other jurisdictions

If you live in another jurisdiction with applicable privacy legislation, including the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Canada, or another US state, you may have additional rights under local law. We will respond to applicable requests in accordance with those requirements.

9. Children’s Privacy

Maraschino is not designed to collect personal information from children who are below the minimum age permitted to use the App under applicable law.

If you believe a child has provided personal information in violation of applicable requirements, please contact us so that we can review the matter and take appropriate action.

10. International Data Processing

Our third-party service providers may process or store information in countries other than the country in which you live. Privacy laws in those countries may differ from those in your jurisdiction.

Where required by applicable law, appropriate safeguards will be used for international transfers of personal information.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes to Maraschino’s features, third-party providers, data practices, or legal requirements.

When we make changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the beginning of this policy. Where required by law, we will provide additional notice or obtain consent for material changes.

We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
